Airplane Travel Hacks
Unless you can afford a private jet, flying is never fun.
From sitting in the same chair for hours to getting microwaved by the body scanner… the entire process is terrible.
Want travel to be a little more bearable?
Here are some practical tips to make you feel significantly better during travel.
What To Wear
Blue light-blocking glasses.
When you board the plane, you’re exposed to high amounts of blue light from fluorescent lighting and bright screens. This disrupts your circadian rhythm, causes mitochondrial dysfunction, and increases oxidative stress.
To fight this, get sunlight before your flight or wear blue light-blocking glasses. These filter out blue and green light, helping regulate your circadian rhythm, lower fatigue, and prevent eye strain.
Compression clothing.
Between the EMFs, lack of movement, and low air pressure, flying is a recipe for poor blood flow. To directly combat this, wear compression socks or even compression clothing head-to-toe.
This will help your blood circulate properly, making you less inflamed after flying.
How To Eat & Drink
Hydrate properly.
The air that circulates the cabin during your flight lacks moisture. If you’re flying for a long time, this will dehydrate you.
Bring electrolytes and make sure to buy bottled water to take on the flight. This will ensure you stay hydrated despite the dry air.
Make sure to skip airplane coffee. It’s brewed with the plane’s tank water, which is often contaminated with bacteria. Plus, the low-quality coffee they use is full of toxins which will dehydrate you.
Consider fasting.
Airports and airplanes are notorious for having unhealthy food options. The best you’ll find is probably $25 beef jerky that’s full of nitrates and preservatives.
Consider fasting instead. Fasting triggers autophagy, promotes lipolysis, and gives your digestive system a break. It will also help regulate your circadian rhythm.
Other Pro Tips
Request a pat down.
Airport security might encourage or even pressure you into using the body scanner. If you don’t want to microwave your entire body, tell them no and ask for a pat-down (they’re legally required to accept your request).
Wear earplugs.
The dull, loud noise inside of the engine cabin is enough to trigger a stress response in your body. To avoid this, wear earplugs or noise-reducing headphones during your flight.
Grounding
Grounding helps lower inflammation and set your circadian rhythm—both of which you need desperately after flying. Make an effort to walk barefoot on the Earth after your flight. You’ll feel less stressed and inflamed.
Most importantly, enjoy your vacation.
Kick back, relax, and recover. Being able to properly enjoy your hard-earned rest will do wonders for your health.
Until next time,
