Baking Soda And It's Versatile Effects

Significantly enhances athletic performance
Promotes restful sleep by decreasing cortisol
Supports immune function and fights inflammation
Improves digestion
The best part? It’s probably sitting in your pantry already.
Baking Soda
Baking soda, or sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO₃), is the most underrated health tool in your kitchen.
Not only does it neutralize odors and make your pancakes fluffy—baking soda offers a wide range of health benefits.
(1) Baking soda improves sleep quality.
One of cortisol’s roles in the body is to manage acidity. Baking soda takes on this task, making the body more alkaline. This reduces stress and promotes relaxation.
Taking 1tsp of baking soda in water before bed will improve latency (how long it takes to fall asleep) and improve sleep quality.
(2) Baking soda significantly boosts athletic performance.
Ever feel the burn during exercise?
This feeling is due to a buildup of lactic acid in your muscles. Baking soda buffers lactic acid, meaning taking it before exercise will make you “feel the burn” much less.
This will allow you to push through workouts with less effort and pain.
Baking soda is so good at enhancing performance that giving it to race horses (a practice called Milkshaking) is banned.
The International Society of Sports Nutrition concluded that baking soda improves performance in sports, exhaustive exercises, and endurance activities.
(3) Baking soda supports the immune system and reduces inflammation.
In a recent study, two weeks of baking soda supplementation shifted the population of immune cells in the spleen from pro-inflammatory to anti-inflammatory.
Researchers concluded that a daily dose of baking soda may be therapeutic for numerous inflammatory diseases.
(4) Baking soda improves digestion.
Long-term consumption of baking soda results in an increased production of stomach acid, which is essential for properly digesting and breaking down food.
It also has a mild laxative effect, relieving constipation and increasing gut motility.
Start by dissolving 1 teaspoon of aluminum-free baking soda in warm water, and drink it before bed.
Some athletes take as high as 5 teaspoons throughout the day. If you’d like to improve your athletic performance, slowly increase the amount.
