The Body's Sewer System
The importance of the lymphatic system
Ever feel like your face and neck are puffier than they should be… maybe after eating bad food or drinking alcohol?
The reason why is your lymphatic system is overburdened.
Your lymphatic system is your body’s sewer system—and your liver, skin, gut, and kidneys all rely on it to remove waste from the body.
Without the right support, your lymphatic system can become overburdened, causing a build up of toxins and fluid in the body.
When this happens, you get visible swelling all over the body, especially around the face, neck, arms, and legs.
In this email, you’re going to learn about this under-appreciated organ system and what you can do to get rid of excess swelling when your lymphatic system is overburdened.
The Lymphatic System
Your body constantly accumulates waste throughout the day.
The lymphatic system’s job is to soak up this waste and remove it from the body.
Much like your cardiovascular system, the lymphatic system has its own network of vessels and nodes.
However, instead of carrying blood, this system transports lymph fluid, a waste-laden liquid that needs to be filtered and removed from your tissues.
When your body is overburdened with toxins or bacteria (and your lymphatic system can’t keep up) this fluid accumulates, leading to swelling throughout your body.
You might notice clothes feeling tighter, jewelry not fitting, or tenderness in your neck, armpit, and groin area.
Here’s what you can do to get rid of this excess swelling and support your lymphatic system.
Supporting The Lymphatic System
#1 - Exercise & Sauna
The number one thing you can do to immediately decrease swelling and bloating is exercise and sauna.
Muscle contractions, sweating, and heat all help lymph fluid circulate properly in the body.
This increases the efficiency of the lymphatic system, helping it remove waste from the body.
Sweating also helps the body get rid of excess toxins—further decreasing the toxic load on the lymphatic system.
A solid hour exercising (resistance training, HIIT, brisk walking, etc), followed by 20 minutes in the sauna is one of the best ways to get rid of swelling in the body.
#2 - Fasting & Psyllium Husk
Fasting gives your digestive system a break, allowing your body to focus on detoxification and reducing the workload on your lymphatic system.
Combining fasting with psyllium husk, a natural fiber supplement, can help bind and eliminate toxins from your digestive tract, promoting overall detoxification.
#3 - Dandelion Root
Dandelion root is a natural diuretic that helps your body flush out excess fluid and toxins.
It supports liver function and enhances the efficiency of the lymphatic system.
You can consume dandelion root as a tea or supplement to help reduce swelling and improve lymphatic health.
The lymphatic system is quite complicated, and we’ve only scratched the surface in this newsletter.
