Glutathione - The Master Antioxidant

Everything you need to know to supplement with it properly

Glutathione is called the “Master Antioxidant,” and for good reason.

It is the most potent intracellular (meaning ‘inside your cells’) antioxidant.

It slows cancer progression, protects against disease, and reduces inflammation.

Perhaps you know this and supplement with glutathione.

Unfortunately, this may not be the best idea—for most people, glutathione supplementation causes nutrient deficiency.

Whether or not this will happen comes down to the GSTT1 gene. This gene controls detoxification in the bloodstream and tells glutathione what to do.

You either have zero, one, or two copies of it.

If you have zero or one copy of this gene, taking glutathione will actually cause harm.

This is because, with zero or one copy, glutathione lacks “instructions” from your genes to do its job properly.

So instead of only removing toxins, glutathione will remove crucial minerals and nutrients—leaving you nutrient deficient.

Having zero or one copy also means your body struggles to remove toxins in general—you might take longer to recover from sickness, feel exhausted after cardio, and have lower alcohol tolerance than your friends.

With this genetic profile, you must be extra precise and intentional with detox, since you cannot rely on glutathione to do its job.

Around 40% of people have zero copies of this gene—which is why I caution against supplementing with glutathione.

Unless you know your genetics, taking it is a gamble.
