He said the reason why is that when heat leaves your body, calories leave your body.

This is a ridiculous claim, and what many people preaching about cold plunging don’t understand is the UCP1 gene.

This is your body’s chief thermoregulation gene. In other words, it controls how your body regulates its temperature.

If you have a suboptimal UCP1 profile, cold plunging frequently will cause your body to store fat.

If your body cannot regulate its temperature, it needs to rely on body fat for extra warmth. It’s a survival mechanism.

The problem with a lot of health advice online is that influencers tend to tell people to do what works for them.

This ends up misguiding people because there’s so much nuance when it comes to health—many things that help some people can harm others.
