Instant Fix for Depression

Do this before getting medication

Most anti-depressant medications don’t work.

In fact, the best one on the market only works 40% of the time.

Anti-depressants also come with side effects like worsening symptoms, panic attacks, and trouble sleeping.

A much better alternative to meds is exercise.

Exercise is free and research has shown that it works 80% of the time in treating depression.

Exercise can instantaneously resolve depression, stress, and anxiety… without the side effects.

This might seem obvious to some. But it really works and is really important.

Exercise is so effective in treating depression for three reasons:

#1 Endorphin Release

Endorphins are endogenous opioids that function to reduce pain and enhance pleasure.

Moving your body releases them to help you endure pain and make physically demanding tasks enjoyable.

#2 External Focus

When you’re doing a challenging exercise, your focus immediately shifts to the task at hand.

You’ll no longer have the bandwidth to fixate on your problems and can find relief from them.

#3 Accomplishment

Depression commonly stems from a lack of reward.

If you do not feel a sense of accomplishment regularly, you will start to feel like the world sucks and seek pleasure to fill the void.

Exercise gives you that sense of accomplishment in a natural way.

If you cannot exercise, you can get this sense of accomplishment from other things—there’s even research showing that running errands can help with depression.

Next time you are anxious or depressed, either:

  • Lift weights for 45 minutes

  • Do 5-10 rounds of HIIT

  • Go on a run, bike ride, or brisk walk outside

  • Sign up for a pilates or yoga class

Whatever you choose to do, if you make a plan and challenge yourself, you will feel like a new person afterward.

Depression is a complicated issue and oftentimes the solution isn’t this easy. However, if you don’t exercise this could be worth a shot.

Hope this helps.

Until next time,
