Poor Detoxification & Alcohol Intolerance
How to find the root cause
You’re with your friends and someone starts making cocktails.
Drinks get passed around and everyone gets excited… except you. To avoid being the odd one out, you cave in and have one.
Time passes and the mood shifts. People are getting chattier and more comfortable. They’re all having fun. But meanwhile…
Your face is swelling and you’re getting red.
You’re feeling nauseous and your head is throbbing.
Your skin is getting itchy and inflamed.
Trust me—I know exactly what this is like. Unfortunately, this is a sign you can’t detox properly.
Alcohol is metabolized by the liver in 3 steps:
Alcohol is converted into acetaldehyde (a carcinogen).
Acetaldehyde is converted into acetate (a less harmful substance).
Acetate is broken down into carbon dioxide and water. After, it’s eliminated from the body.
In essence, alcohol is a toxin and your body goes through an extensive process to remove it.
If you’re missing detox, you do not do this process well—leading to a subpar drinking experience and a terrible hangover for one or two days after.
Low alcohol tolerance is a sign that your body doesn’t detox well in general. This could do with:
Your GSTT1 profile. This controls glutathione which is responsible for the removal of many toxins. With zero copies, your detox system can’t function properly, leading to lower alcohol tolerance and decreased ability to detox.
Your GSTM1 profile. This controls your gut’s ability to detox. With a suboptimal profile, your body struggles to remove toxins from food and drinks you consume.
Your MTHFR gene. This controls methylation which is a key detox process in your body. If you have a suboptimal profile, you have a reduced ability to detox heavy metals, fragrances, food additives, and drugs.
Whatever the case, it’s a problem that can be solved.
The most important part is being able to know exactly which detox pathways are failing, so you can give them targeted assistance and fix your problem.
For example—Heidi, a member in the Live to 120 Masterclass, struggled with chronic fatigue and didn’t know what was causing it.
Once we tested her genes, it was clear that her body was accumulating toxic estrogen metabolites.
Once we solved it, Heidi got her energy back. Hear it from her:
“I was completely blind to something that was causing an enormous amount of fatigue: toxic hormonal metabolites. No acupuncturist, naturopath, or functional medicine doctor could find out why my energy was low. Now that I've been given a very specific plan in supporting my body... I have more energy today than I did in my twenties. And I’m in my mid-forties!”
Understanding your genetics is the first step in getting healthy.
In the Live to 120 Masterclass, we’ll build you a unique plan and get to the root of your health issues. No more experimentation and no more guesswork.
