The Real Problem With Mold

Mycotoxins and VOCs

You breathe 11,000L of air per day—enough to fill a swimming pool.

With such a large amount of anything passing through your body each day, you want to make sure it’s clean… and most importantly, mold-free.

Mold makes air toxic. It’s a big issue and affects nearly half of all homes, offices, and schools in the US.

In this email, you’ll learn the signs of mold exposure and how to mitigate its damage.

Are Mycotoxins Really The Issue?

Contrary to popular belief, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are the true issue with mold. Not mycotoxins.

There are 140,000 species of mold and only 12 of them produce mycotoxins worth worrying about. The only reason you hear people talking about them is because they’re easy to test for (mold is not).

This is convenient for food companies because they can test their products for mycotoxins and can sell them as “mold-free” products. This is another greenwashing scam.

The real issue with mold exposure are VOCs—dangerous gases that mold produces in large volumes.

Exposure to VOCs causes:

  • mitochondrial dysfunction

  • increased risk of cancer

  • organ damage

  • weakened immune system

  • asthma attacks

  • allergic reactions

  • hormonal imbalance

  • brain fog

How To Tell If Your Home Has Mold

Checking for mold is pretty straightforward: look out for the “basement smell.”

This muggy, stale smell is the #1 sign of mold and also what makes mold so bad for you. It’s neurotoxic and damaging to your nervous system.

You can also tell by how you feel:

Do you have difficulty concentrating, get headaches, or bloating? Do you have chronic allergies, suffer from hives, or experience hair loss?

If you’re experiencing these or just want peace of mind, consider buying a home test kit.

What To Do If You Have Mold

A mold problem is ultimately a moisture problem.

It only takes 24-48 hours to grow in a damp environment. If you smell the “basement smell” try to identify what’s causing moisture and eliminate it.

If the problem is too severe, repairs might be necessary.

However, if you keep humidity levels low, ventilate your home, and use dehumidifiers, you’ll solve most issues before they happen.

If you can’t avoid mold, do this:

Focus on detoxification and support your lymphatic system. Exercise and sauna regularly to improve blood flow and release toxins from your skin.

Prioritize your liver health. Limit your consumption of alcohol and consider supplementing with:

  • Milk thistle an herbal remedy with powerful antioxidant, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties.

  • Alpha Lipoic Acid which supports liver function and helps with detox.

  • High Dose Vitamin C supports the immune system and liver detox. Liposomal ascorbic acid is the most effective form.

Mold is not something to fear, but something to be aware of. Manage what you can, prioritize nutrient-dense foods, and focus on recovery.
