The Food Pyramid Just Got Flipped Upside Down
After decades of telling you to fear fat and eat more grains, the federal government reversed course. Here's what the new dietary guidelines actually say.
The food pyramid just got flipped upside down.
It used to look like this:

Now it looks like this:

What happened?
The USDA and HHS released the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2025–2030.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. summarized it at the press conference: "Eat Real Food."
Here's what changed.
Zero Added Sugar
The government drew a hard line on sugar.
The recommendation: no amount of added sugar is advised.
For children four and under, the guidance calls for complete avoidance.
For adults, all sugar-sweetened beverages—sodas, fruit drinks, energy drinks—should be eliminated.
More Protein
Meat is now the anchor of the meal.
Eggs, poultry, seafood, and red meat are all explicitly supported.
The guidance is clear: prioritize high-quality, nutrient-dense protein at every meal.
Fat Is Back
The low-fat era is over.
The new guidelines encourage Americans to get their fat from whole food sources.
Full-fat dairy, avocados, olives, nuts, seeds, and animal fats from meat.
My Take
I'll give credit where it's due. This is a step in the right direction.
But these are the same institutions that told your parents to eat margarine instead of butter.
The same agencies that pushed the food pyramid that made us the sickest nation in the developed world.
The same government that allowed seed oils, artificial sweeteners, and chemical preservatives to flood our food supply.
Now they want you to trust them again.
Here's what the new guidelines still don't address:
Why one person thrives on a high-fat diet while another gains weight.
Why some people can handle carbohydrates and others become insulin resistant.
Why chronic disease runs in families—and what you can do about it.
The answer isn't in a government pamphlet. It's in your DNA.
If you want real answers—personalized answers—you need to understand what’s going on in your body.
Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, said it best:
“He who is not his own doctor is a fool.”
Don't wait for Washington to figure out what works for your body.
They're about 50 years behind.
Until next time,
