The “Natural” Ingredient That Wrecks Your Gut
Natural does not mean healthy
Carrageenan is one of the most common food additives you’ll find on shelves today.
It’s used to thicken and stabilize everything from almond milk to deli meats.
The FDA still considers it “Generally Recognized as Safe”…
But more and more research is showing a different story.

Carageenan is derived from seaweed
Long-term exposure to carrageenan has been linked to chronic intestinal inflammation, impaired gut barrier function, and even increased risk of certain cancers, particularly in the colon and breast tissue.
It activates inflammatory pathways like TLR4 and NF-κB, and increases pro-inflammatory molecules such as IL-8.
This is why many people believe dairy or meat products are “inflammatory”…
When often, it’s not the food itself. It’s the additives inside them.
Even organic or “natural” products can contain carrageenan.
And while it’s derived from seaweed, that doesn’t make it safe for the human body.
Small, daily exposures can still keep your gut in a constant state of low-grade inflammation.
I always read labels and avoid it whenever I can…
Because the best way to protect your gut is to know exactly what you’re feeding it.
Until next time,
