Detox Handbook

Learn how to remove heavy metals, excess estrogen, and more with this guide

Most people do detox wrong.

They’ll take loads of supplements and end up feeling worse than they started.

That’s because detoxing properly involves two stages: releasing and binding.

If you only focus on releasing, you’ll release toxins from your tissues into your body, making you feel terrible.

It's like stirring up the mud at the bottom of a pond. The water gets murky and it takes a while for things to settle down.

That's why I emphasize the importance of releasing and binding in my detox protocols.

To make it easy for you, I've created this detox handbook with specific protocols for you can use to handle different substances.

Be sure to read to the end, where I talk about the nuance behind glutathione (and why it might do more harm than good for you).

Focus On Removal First

But before I get into protocols, it’s important to understand that removing the toxins first will give you the biggest bang for your buck.

Detox protocols are effective. But if you don’t focus on removing what’s causing the problem in the first place, they won’t work.

So first, make a conscious effort to remove as many toxins from your environment as possible. Here are two resources to help you:

Detox Protocol Guide

I’ve included 4 detox protocols to effectively and painlessly remove common toxins from your body.

These protocols are ranked in order of application, starting with ones that everyone can do and progressing to more specific ones.

If you choose to do any of these, start with one at a time to see how you feel before considering multiple protocols simultaneously.

1) Exercise & Sauna

This may seem obvious, but exercise and sauna are great ways to remove toxins from your body.

They both improve circulation and help your body release toxins through your sweat.

"Toxic elements were found to differing degrees in each of blood, urine, and sweat. Serum levels for most metals and metalloids were comparable with those found in other studies in the scientific literature. Many toxic elements appeared to be preferentially excreted through sweat. Presumably stored in tissues, some toxic elements readily identified in the perspiration of some participants were not found in their serum. Induced sweating appears to be a potential method for elimination of many toxic elements from the human body."

Since you’re releasing the toxins out of your body, binding is not necessary.

2) Fasting

If you’re not underweight or pregnant, fasting is a powerful way to remove toxins from your body:

  • Metabolic waste - fasting triggers autophagy, where the body breaks down and recycles damaged cells and cellular components.

  • Fat - your body stores toxins in your fat. Fasting promotes lipolysis, which is the breakdown of fat stores for energy.

  • Heavy metals and environmental toxins - while fasting doesn’t directly remove these toxins, it enhances the efficiency of the liver and kidneys which helps the body remove them.

  • Bad gut bacteria - fasting helps kill bad gut microbiota. This can reduce symptoms of dysbiosis and microbial overgrowths, promoting a healthy gut environment.

When you fast for more than 48 hours, your body will start to release a lot of toxins, particularly in your gut. Take binders like activated charcoal and bentonite clay to bind & release these toxins.

3) Estrogen Detox

This is especially beneficial for women who suffer from excess estrogen in their body.

There are three main things you can do to detox your body from estrogen:

Sulforaphane - is a compound found in cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, which enhances estrogen metabolism.

Aromatase inhibitors - aromatization is the process where the body converts testosterone into estrogen. If you have too much estrogen, you can slow this down through aromatase inhibitors like DIM or white button mushrooms.

Insoluble fiber - insoluble fiber from foods like carrots and mushrooms binds and clears estrogen from the gut.

4) Heavy Metals

Heavy metals are everywhere—aluminum foil, cookware, and pesticides in food.

Over time, heavy metals oxidize, causing damage to your tissues and brain. Here are some potent heavy metal detoxifiers you can use to remove heavy metals from your body:

Barley grass juice extract draws out heavy metals from multiple parts of your body including the intestinal tract, pancreas, and reproductive system.

Cilantro extracts metals, especially ones that linger for a long time such as mercury.

Wild blueberries are full of polyphenols and antioxidants that remove metals and reduce the damage that they cause.

Spirulina draws out heavy metals from your brain and binds to them. This is an important addition if you choose to use the substances I mentioned above, which are all good at releasing metals from your body.

This is inspired by Anthony William’s heavy metal detox smoothie, which is the best and easiest way to get all of these nutrients in your diet.

You might’ve noticed I didn’t mention glutathione.

For those who don’t know, glutathione is your body’s go-to antioxidant.

I’ve heard many miracle stories of people supplementing with glutathione, and all of a sudden their skin glows, they get better sleep, and feel clearheaded.

However, there’s nuance around glutathione that most people aren’t aware of.

If you are missing the GSTT1 gene (which many people are) taking glutathione will harm your body and make you feel terrible.

That’s because your body doesn’t have the hardware to use it properly.

People with this genetic variation typically:

  • Have low tolerance for alcohol

  • Feel exhausted after running/doing cardio

  • Get sick for longer than most people

This gene plays a huge role in how your body handles toxins—if it’s missing taking action to support your body is crucial.

If you don’t, your body could sustain serious damage from toxins in the long run.

If you think you might have this variation, I have good news for you.

I’ve created a program where we will find out which variation of the GSTT1 gene you have (along with 9 detoxification genes).

Then, I will personally give you a plan with various foods, supplements, and lifestyle changes you can make to help your body handle toxins.

Throughout this program, you’ll be able to ask me questions directly and get personalized advice for an entire year.
